Avoiding Burnout

Burnout Avoidance!!

Does our anxiety about the future create anxiety in the present? Do we feel this pressure to have all of 2020 figured out?

January is FUN!!! We get to spend time with my friends and family mostly distraction-free. We are able to take care of some life stuff that we may have been trying to finish forever. We get to go outside and have the space to feel very grounded, grateful, and reflective.

So……
It can feel like a bit of a struggle now that back to “normal” (chuckle) is here – perhaps harder to find motivation to get back to work; stay on track and energised with goals and fired up for the projects.

The amount of energy required to hit restart may be challenging. The energetic cost of achieving a goal can be HUGE.

Should you decide to cut yourself some slack, go with the flow of what is happening now (school back, routine, etc) and re-visit any projects – one step at a time?

I think YES. This prevents burnout and overwhelm for me. I want to sustain my energy, creativity and focus.

I want to make sure I’m setting the right goals that align with my values, mission, and vision—not just quickly setting goals so I can cross it off my list.

I am grateful that I am able to recognize that the  pressure I’m feeling is almost entirely being driven by me. Instead of letting this pressure control me, I’m taking control.

Are you also feeling like there’s a pressure to have the rest of the year (maybe even decade) figured out this month?

As I am writing this, there are quiet a few really good things on the go:

If I look at it as its entirety, my there will be lots of anxiety – even writing about it makes my guts churn and my head spin.

So – one thing at a time, one day at a time. With a smile, and a nice mantra on repeat in my mind “calm, strong”.

Stick to the healthy habits – for mind and body, staying calmly on track and enjoying life.
